Research and Teaching:

Dr. Agon Hamza's research is on German idealism, political thinking and philosophy, religion and film theory. He is currently working on a book on Hegel's political philosophy.  He is the founder and co-editor-in-chief, with Frank Ruda, of the international journal of political thought and philosophy, Crisis and Critique, as well as the co-host of the Crisis and Critique Podcast: Philosophy and Its Other Scene. His recent publications include Reading Freud with Slavoj Zizek and Frank Ruda (Polity: forthcoming); Reading Hegel with Slavoj Zizek and Frank Ruda (Polity, 2022); Reading Marx with Slavoj Zizek and Frank Ruda (Polity, 2018); and Althusser and Pasolini: Philosophy, Marxism, and Film (Palgrave, 2016).  He is also editor of Althusser and Theology: Religion, Politics and Philosophy (Brill, 2016).  At JMU, Dr. Hamza teaches an upper-level course in political philosophy, Philosophy 335: The Individual, the State, and Justice.
