The Xi Chapter of Virginia offers small grants in support of student research and scholarship efforts. Money for these grants can be used for the following.

  • Travel to present scholarly work at meetings

  • Travel to support scholarly activities

  • Supplies for scholarly activities

Grants of $500 to $1000 will be awarded for travel, and up $500 for supplies.


All Xi Chapter of Virginia student members are eligible provided they are in residence at James Madison University during the period when the funds will be used.

Application Procedure

Grant applications are considered upon receipt between August and April and should be made at least six weeks before funds are needed. Only complete applications will be considered.

Please send the following application materials electronically to

  1. Statement of Purpose (maximum two pages)—Include a brief description of the work, what the money will be used for, and note any other sources of funding.

  2. Proposed Budget—List all items for which grant money wil be spent and the total requested.

  3. Letter of Support—This letter must be from the faculty member mentoring the work.
