The music theory faculty at JMU strive to create engaging and rewarding learning opportunities for music majors and non-music majors alike that acknowledge the diversity of music students encounter in their daily lives. We offer a range of courses that cover styles such as popular, folk, jazz, and classical music, and seminars at the undergraduate and graduate levels provide opportunities for more advanced study. Recent topics, for example, have included: the music of underrepresented composers, public music theory, and modes of musical meaning. We can't wait to work with you!
