Expand Access to High-Quality Work-Based Learning Experience On and Off Campus

JMU is expanding access to high-quality work-based learning experiences, on and off campus, and creating one connected place where students can discover opportunities, document what they complete, reflect on their learning, earn credentials, and build a portfolio of experiences. Faculty and staff will use shared systems to guide students and assess outcomes, and university leaders will have real-time visibility into participation and impact.
This Priority Initiative Supports:
Pillar 1: Enhance the Purpose, Value, and Impact of a JMU Education
Key Performance Indicators
- Every student will have a single location to discover opportunities, document participation, reflect on learning, earn credentials, and build a portfolio of experiences.
- Faculty and staff will use integrated systems to support students, assess outcomes, and add or adjust WBLE opportunities.
- Leadership will have access to real-time dashboards and metrics demonstrating institutional impact and the value of the JMU experience.
FY27 Action Items
- Establish systems of governance and ownership for the growing number of WBLE experiences and diversity of opportunities across a variety of owners and placements.
- Determine a leadership structure for managing WBLE across the divisions and departments at JMU.
- Set forth a plan for growth and ongoing management as the program increases in size and complexity.
- Build the structure for a Canvas Hub where students can find WBLE experiences, report their completed experiences into a Parchment credentialing module, and determine any additional IT infrastructure needed.
- Establish a process for credentialing for submission, verification, and output for students to utilize in explaining and codifying their experiences.
