Undergraduate research is one of JMU's signature strengths. This initiative expands access to hands-on research and creative projects, builds the assessment and support infrastructure behind them, and raises the university's national profile for undergraduate research.

Key Performance Indicators
- Earn national recognition for undergraduate research and creative projects, with a Top-10 ranking by 2040.
- Earn the Council on Undergraduate Research AURA Award.
FY27 Action Items
- Establish leadership, governance, and operational capacity for undergraduate research.
- Build campuswide assessment and reporting.
- Strengthen and expand existing research programs and pathways.
- Grow visibility and student engagement and launch recognition activities.
