Campus Events & Student Engagement
Theresa Lind
Ph.D. Candidate
Theresa Lind received certification as a pandemic compliance advisor for meeting and event professionals. As face-to-face meetings become an option again, new standards will need to be implemented to ensure a safe experience for the attendees and planners. The class, administered by Health Education Services, covers topics that include mitigating risk, positive symptom protocol, social distancing and sanitization. Lind can transmit her learning to her students through her HM 317 introduction and HM 417 advanced classes in event management. Shawn Lough
Ph.D. Student
Shawn Lough and his colleague Carey Cole serve as advisors to the JMU student chapter of the Association of Information Systems (AIS) in addition to their teaching responsibilities in the College of Business Computer Information System department. Lough and Cole led a JMU student team that took 2nd place in the HP Design Thinking Competition track at the AIS 2021 Student Chapter Leadership Conference (SCLC) Competitions! Using AWS infrastructure, the JMU students created Kaigi, a cloud-based, customizable virtual meeting platform targeted for educators within the K-12 and higher education space, and submitted it among a record-breaking number of entries. All student teams involved were tasked with designing an alternative to Zoom that would support a team working on a project where communication and document sharing are vital but also context-specific. The brief asked students to submit three items: wireframe mockups that show important aspects of their solution; a vision of the architecture of the design; and a perspective on how diversity and inclusion would be supported.
