B.A. English Major
English is offered as a major and minor at JMU. Our program prepares students for many professions in which skillful use of language, mental flexibility, critical thinking, and all forms of human communication are important: law, publishing, teaching, non-profit work, journalism, public and media relations, broadcasting, government, and business.
Wherever your professional and vocational interests lie, the English major and minor presents an opportunity to develop the intellectual independence and tolerance of difference that we all need to flourish in our society and to help others to flourish. Through a sustained study of great literature, English majors and minor learn to think and speak for themselves, and to better comprehend our shared culture and other cultures.
The undergraduate catalog contains a complete description of university degree requirements and specific requirements for the English major, as well as a recommended schedule.
