Graduate Student
Sophia Freiburger received her bachelor’s degree in English from Bates College, while also studying philosophy and psychology. She is very interested in the critical relationships between geometry, patriarchy, and feminist theory. While at Bates, her research centered on shape theories as intersecting with Postmodern sexuality and the exoticized sublime in Victorian works. She is also drawn to twentieth-century Asian American literature, with emphasis on Vietnamese diaspora texts: particularly the connections between refugeeship, the supernatural, and cultural relationships to land.
Outside of academic interests, Sophia loves being outdoors, thrifting, her earbuds, playing low-stakes basketball, and trying new recipes. She is so excited to be at JMU!
