Kristen Shrewsbury, Ph.D., serves as the Coordinator. Equitable access to quality education is Dr. Shrewsbury's passion. She provides academic English language support for faculty, staff, and students in consultations and through group programs. As a tutor, she speciliazes in working with graduate and undergraduate students on large writing projects including Honors and Master's theses, and Doctoral dissertations. As a tutor trainer, Dr. Shrewsbury focuses training on developing TESOL expertise, encourgaing connections among tutors and their tutees as well as with content from their fields of study, and fostering warmth in the interactions that comprise the tutor experience. 

An Assistant Professor, Dr. Shrewsbury teaches in both the graduate and undergraduate Teaching English as Second Language programs, the Equity and Cultural Diversity M.Ed. program, and the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program. Before starting at JMU in 2007, she taught intensive English in the English Language Institute at the University of Delaware.
