Ms. Martin began her education career as a special education teacher for emotional and learning disabilities in K-12 public schools. In addition, she has experience in alternative education, GED night school curriculum, and children’s mental hospital education.  

In her current role, she responds to requests from teachers, administrators, and division personnel from public schools and state operated programs. She partners to build capacity to implement inclusive and evidence-based practices with her focus being functional behavioral assessments, classroom and behavior management, standards-based IEPs, specially designed instruction, co-teaching, and assistive technology. Ms. Martin is a Strategic Instruction Model™ professional developer in Content Enhancement Routines from the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning (KUCRL) and has provided site leadership in the VDOE/KUCRL Content Literacy Continuum™ (CLC) Initiative.  At JMU, she has presented for the Content Teaching Academy, Kappa Delta Pi Educator Conferences, residency teachers, and courses in Psychology, Education Foundations, and LTLE. She has taught courses at JMU to include Instructional Strategies for Students in High Risk Environments, Differentiation and Collaboration in Special Education, High Expectations in Inclusive Practices, and Standards of Learning (SOL) in CTE Classes. Her interests include writing and playing music, DIY projects, and spending time with her family and golden retrievers.
