Why did you become an ambassador? Because I loved how involved and passionate everyone in the major seemed to be. I remember meeting the IT Ambassadors when I was a prospective student and how much that experience influenced my decision to come to JMU and pursue IT. I wanted the opportunity to give back to the program and create that same welcoming experience for future students.

Why did you choose IT? Because I really enjoy how hands-on the program is. Instead of only learning concepts, we get to experiment with technology and understand how things actually work. I also like that IT combines working with people, systems, and technology.

What do you enjoy most about IT? JMU’s IT program exposes students to a wide variety of topics and builds a strong understanding of technology from the fundamentals up.

Who has been an influential professor, mentor, or advisor? Dr. Belsare has been one of the most influential professors and mentors during my time at JMU. She began helping me during my freshman year by connecting me with research opportunities and inviting me to join her research group, which eventually gave me the opportunity to attend and present at the IEEE BHI 2025 conference. She is incredibly kind, knowledgeable, organized, and respectful, and she has always made an effort to support her students and help them grow.

What clubs, student organizations, or activities are you involved in? Women In Technology club, boxing club, and the Unix Users Group club. I am also associated with madiSTEM.

What is something you love to do outside of class? I enjoy working on my homelab, burning CDs for my collection, drawing, reading, and listening to music.

What advice would you give to a prospective student? It’s okay to be uncertain about your path. College is a time to explore, try new things, and learn through experience. Some of the best opportunities come from staying curious and following what interests you, even if you don’t have everything figured out yet.

Anything else you'd like to share? I first discovered my passion for technology in high school through cybersecurity courses. Although I was initially undecided between pursuing health or technology, JMU’s IT program resonated with me because of its welcoming community and collaborative opportunities in interdisciplinary research.
