The Davis Family Scholarship was established through the generosity of the Jane J. Davis to support graduate students pursuing advanced study in counseling. Annual distributions from the endowment provide financial assistance to students enrolled in the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counselor Education program with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

The Davis Family’s vision is to recruit and retain exceptional graduate psychology students who are dedicated to becoming licensed professional counselors and to advancing the field of mental health through compassionate, evidence-based practice.

2025 Recipient - Camilla Beeley

Camilla Beeley

I am deeply honored and grateful to be selected as a recipient of the Jonathan D. Davis scholarship. My prior work in forensic psychology has allowed me to witness the complex ways trauma, systemic inequities, and mental illness can shape a person’s life. I have worked with individuals whose experiences of violence, loss, and isolation have left them struggling to find hope. These encounters, along with having multiple people in my own life consider suicide, have deeply influenced my commitment to suicide awareness, prevention, and compassionate care.

This scholarship eases the financial burden of my graduate education and allows me to dedicate more energy to my training as a counselor. I am truly grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Davis for their generosity and for honoring Jonathan’s memory through their support. After graduating from JMU’s Masters program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I hope to carry his legacy forward by as I develop into a compassionate, dignifying, and trauma-informed counselor.
