Hey everyone! My name is Hannah Richardson. I'm currently a third year AuD student here at James Madison University, and today I'm going to be giving you a virtual tour of our facilities. So let's go!
This is the entrance to our on-campus clinic.

To the right, we have the Speech Pathology Clinic where our SLP students provide services to the community.

Right when our patients walk in, they are greeted by the front desk staff and directed to the waiting room.

To the left is the entrance to the Audiology Clinic, which AUD students do have 24-hour swipe access to.

The first door on the right is our adult audiometric booth. This is where we perform hearing evaluations for older children and adults. The booth contains a TympStar Pro, as well as a video otoscope, and this is where we do case history with patients, perform otoscopy, tympanometry, and reflexes.

If we walk a little further down the hallway, we will reach the tester side of the booth, which contains a Madsen Astera audiometer. The software in this booth is set up so we are able to use both the audiometer itself and the keyboard to perform hearing evaluations, so we are able to get comfortable with the different ways to perform evals.

Next up is the tester side of our pediatrics booth. It's really great having multiple booths because we're able to dedicate one specifically to pediatric patients, and we have a different audiometer in the second booth, so we get practice with two different types of instrumentation.

At the end of the hallway is our pediatric booth itself. It contains both traditional and virtual VRA equipment and toys for performing CPA as well. A recent addition to this booth is the portable tympanometer. It's really great for testing kids, because we aren't restricted by any cords so if the child is fidgety, or prefers to play on the ground with some toys, we have the flexibility to still be able to obtain tymps.

Right across the hallway here is our hearing aids room which is where we do all of our appointments related to hearing aids. We have our Verifit up on the counter and behind the desk, we have our demo hearing aids and accessories from most major manufacturers.
We also have everything we need for hearing aid “clean and checks” in this room as well as ear mold impression material for patients who come in for custom ear molds, or custom hearing protection, or swim plugs.

This next room is what we call our middle room. This is where we come before clinic to review patients’ charts, place orders, catch up on paperwork, and really anything else you have to do for clinic. We also have Carl hanging out in this room with us and he helps us practice our cerumen removal skills from time to time.

Now this last room is our evoked potentials room. So, this is where we do ABRs, OAEs, ECOHG… Really anything involving evoked potentials.

Right across from the student entrance to the clinic is our prep room. Only students who are part of a CSD graduate program at JMU have access to this room, so it's our own little designated space in the building.

To the right you'll see the area that's dedicated to the SLP students. We share a little kitchenette with them that has a fridge and a microwave for our lunches.

In our prep room we have cubbies for each AuD student and some open access computers lined up against the wall that anyone can use. On the other side of the room we have secure computers that we use for writing reports for clinic, and we have all of our textbooks lined up against the wall which is really great and convenient. We spend a lot of time in the prep room both with members of our own cohorts as well as other AuD students. We talk, we do homework, we share advice with younger cohorts, and it's just a great place to hang out and bond with everyone in the program.

On the fifth floor is our CSD research suite. With the exception of the Dean's office and a conference space, the entire fifth floor is made up of CSD research labs. Like the clinic and prep room, we do have 24-hour swipe access to it. Both the SLP and AuD programs have labs up here, so there are 13 labs in total on this floor and there is always something interesting going on up here.

Located right next to our building is the Student Success Center or the SSC as we like to call it.

It does have some dining options in it so if we ever forget our lunch or need a little pick-me-up, we can head on over here and grab something.

JMU is a beautiful campus as a whole, but in my opinion, the most beautiful spot on campus is definitely the quad. Luckily for us, the quad is only a short walk away from our building and it is a great place to take a little break from studying, stretch our legs, and get some fresh air.

Just a short drive from campus is historic downtown Harrisonburg. This area has more than 40 locally owned restaurants with a variety of shopping options and some great entertainment. There are also a number of events hosted in downtown Harrisonburg from trivia nights to farmers markets, so there's always something to do. If you're someone who enjoys the outdoors, Harrisonburg is located in the Central Shenandoah Valley, so there's easy access to multiple different kinds of outdoor activities.
