Mac OS x Leopard Support Statement

Planning for support of Mac OSX Leopard is under way. JMU Information Technology continues to test and evaluate these programs for compatibility with the university's central applications and systems. Pending this extensive testing, we expect to begin providing support for OSX Leopard effective March 1, 2008. Pending the outcome of further evaluation, support for Boot Camp dual-boot functionality is not expected to be offered March 1.

While we are testing and evaluating this application, our recommendation is that no one installs it unless there is a pressing business or academic need to do so.

Additional information and updates will be provided on our resource pages:

JMU Support for Windows Vista

Windows Vista is currently supported on student-owned PCs.
Pending resolution of compatibility issues with mission-critical central and core applications, support for Vista on faculty/staff/JMU-owned PCs has been deferred to January 1, 2008. As IT continues to evaluate and test Vista, our recommendation continues to be that Vista *not* be installed on faculty/staff/JMU-owned computers unless there is a pressing business or academic need to do so.

Supported Versions of Windows Vista (based on timeframe above)

  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Ultimate
  • Windows Vista Enterprise (faculty/staff/JMU-owned computers only)
  • (Please note there will be no support for "Home" versions of Vista)

Office 2007--Work at Home Licensing *for faculty and staff only*

JMU has a Campus Agreement contract with Microsoft Corporation to provide Microsoft Office (new licenses and upgrades) for use on JMU-owned computers. In addition, our Campus Agreement permits faculty and staff to install Microsoft Office on a personally-owned computer through Microsoft’s “Work at Home” licensing program... More...
