On-Campus Confidential Resources
Confidential resources at JMU are the employees who are exempt from reporting information about incidents of sexual misconduct involving JMU community members to the Title IX Office. At JMU, the Counseling Center, University Health Center, Victim Advocacy Services, health coaches in Health and Promotion, and undergraduate student employees (excluding RA’s) are all designated as confidential. Victim Advocacy Services
A free, confidential, trauma-informed, and individualized service available to students who have experienced sexual assault, dating, domestic violence, stalking, sexual harassment, and other forms of sexual misconduct.

Counseling Center
The Counseling Center's Sexual Trauma Empowerment Program (STEP) offers free and confidential short and long-term individual, group, and emergency sexual trauma counseling services for James Madison University students.

University Health Center
Offers a variety of health services to JMU students including urgent care, lab services, STD/STI testing, GYN clinic, and medical treatment by appointment.

Well Dukes
Well Dukes coaches are confidential resources. The office also offers comprehensive and positive sexuality education through various programs and services to students.

There are on-campus offices who can share information about reporting options and support available to members of the JMU community. JMU Police Department
In an emergency situation, call 911 or 540-568-6911 for on-campus police. To report a non-emergency situation or learn more about reporting options, call 540-568-6912.
Title IX Office
The Title IX Office is responsible for receiving and responding to reports of sexual misconduct and other discrimination on the basis of sex or gender such as sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking by providing supportive measures and access to other resources.
Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices (OSARP)
OSARP handles JMU community standards violations and facilitates student development and restoration through a fair process that holds students accountable to community and university standards in order to support student and community success.
Dean of Students Office
Students, university personnel, community members, or family members can submit a Care Referral online about a student they are concerned about through the Madison Cares program.
Off-Campus Local Resources
There are also resources available off-campus in the Harrisonburg community. These resources are not required to report information about sexual misconduct involving JMU community members to the Title IX Office.
The Collins Center
Any member of the community, including JMU students, can call the Collins Center 24-hour sexual assault crisis hotline at 540-434-2272 to learn more about counseling services and other resources directly from a trained advocate at no charge. Individuals who would like to learn more about the Commonwealth Attorney's Victim Witness Program can call the Collins Center for more information on assistance & support through a criminal process.
First Step
First Step, located in downtown Harrisonburg, serves and shelters survivors of domestic and dating violence. There is always a staff-member on site at First Step to answer the 24-hour hotline and meet in person with survivors. First Step also provides temporary shelter, as well as an array of other services to survivors and their children.
Harrisonburg Police Department

In emergency situations, call 911 to reach the Rocking County Sheriff’s Office. To report a non-emergency situation in Rockingham County, call the non-emergency line at 540-564-3800.
