Description
Duties:
Busy professional seeks an extra pair of hands at home; looking for approximately 1.5-2.5 hours of having a helper work alongside me each week.
Every week: Vaccuming/sweeping/spot mopping, cleaning bathrooms, either starting or hanging out a load of laundry
Most/many weeks: Assisting me with some form of cooking--often, a large batch meal prep item for the freezer; sometimes, just prepping the veggies from the CSA. Some amount of cleaning kitchen and taking out trash--possibly some weeks I will cook before you come and it will be all cleanup.
Sometimes: Projects like assembling storage shelves or 'gophering' while I organize a messy area of my home; assistance with decluttering (I may ask you to list items on buy nothing for me, or to drop off a load at a thrift store, etc.) There may also be occasional administrative tasks or errands if you're comfortable with that.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate:
- Can pass a background check/provide good references (friends are OK as references! If you are OK with me talking to them.), and who is also generally reliable and trustworthy.
- Is someone I enjoy spending time with, and who is generally empathetic and nonjudgemental (bonus if you like to read and we have things to talk about).
- Is able to be focused and reasonably energetic while on the job.
- May have occasional availability for longer jobs as needed.
- Has the physical capacity for occasional heavy lifts (up to about 90 lbs, but even the occasional 50 lb lift would be useful).
- I'm not especially skilled at cleaning, and it would be great to find an assistant who is.
- Someone who has access to a car and has a current license would be nice, as it would be good to have the option of occasionally sending you on errands.
- Someone who will not be too stressed by being minimally interactive with their phone for the duration of each shift--a big part of what I'm looking for is a body double, and you being on your phone would make that less effective.
- Someone for whom what I'm offering is a good deal--not dealing with an excessive commute, etc.
- Very few of these qualifications are essential.
How to apply:
Additional Information:
I'd love for students to email a resume or a brief letter or video clip introducing themself. Preference for students to plan to remain available to work for the summer and for next school year. I'm not accustomed to having other people work in my home, and due to the sensitivity of that, I will be making use of references and a background check. To reciprocally assure employee safety and privacy, I am happy to provide my license number (I'm a therapist) to the school or to any students I employ.
