Howard S. Carrier holds an LL.B.(Hons) degree in Law and an LL.M. in the Law of Human Rights and Civil Liberties from the University of Leicester (United Kingdom), and is an Assistant Professor in JMU Libraries. Previously, he worked as a Research Associate for access to justice and litigation funding research projects at the University of Nottingham, and Lecturer in Law at the University of Sunderland teaching Constitutional Law and International Law. His legal interests include: Copyright & Intellectual Property, Jurisprudence and Legal Theory, the Sociology of Law, European Union Law, the European Convention on Human Rights, and International Law.

 

As JMU’s Liaison Librarian to the Departments of Justice Studies, Political Science, and Sociology & Anthropology, Mr. Carrier works extensively in the area of legal information literacy, and is available to consult with students on that topic, in terms of both domestic (US) and international legal sources. Additionally, he is pleased to advise students who are interested in professional legal education, but may wish to seek legal careers beyond legal practice, for example working in governmental, intergovernmental, and nongovernmental agencies.
