Josephine Suwanpoh, a soprano and pianist from Indonesia, is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in Voice Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature with an emphasis on Singing Health at James Madison University. She studies under the tutelage of Bridgid Eversole and Grammy award-winning baritone Kevin McMillan. Josephine holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Collaborative Piano from The University of Akron in Ohio, USA, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from UCSI University in Malaysia.
An accomplished performer, Josephine has performed internationally across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Her academic distinctions include being a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. She is also the recipient of multiple awards and scholarships, such as the Sixth Annual James Tannenbaum Memorial Scholarship Competition, the Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition, and the Malaysian Youth Orchestra Festival. Furthermore, she has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists, including Thomas Hampson and Siphiwe McKenzie.
In addition to performing, Josephine previously served as the coordinator of the vocal arts program and lecturer of voice at the Conservatory of Music, Universitas Pelita Harapan in Indonesia. Currently, she maintains an active schedule as a voice teacher, vocal coach, and clinician, specializing in vocal health and rehabilitation.
