Marlon Foster was born in Yorktown, Virginia and educated in the York County Public School system.  He received his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees from James Madison University.  He has conducted and adjudicated workshops involving marching and concert percussion, and jazz band rhythm sections throughout the state of Virginia.  He has also conducted many All-District and All-County bands at the middle school level.

Mr. Foster was a member of the United States Air Force Band at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, under the direction of Colonel Lowell E. Graham.  He has performed with the Rockbridge Symphony Orchestra, the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival Orchestra, the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society, the Harrisonburg/ Rockingham Concert Band, Big Ray And The Cool Cats Swing Orchestra, the Super Jazz Big Band, the Vosbein Magee Big Band, and Mr. Jefferson’s Bones trombone ensemble.  He continues to perform jazz and symphonic music with ensembles throughout the state of Virginia.

Mr. Foster retired from the Harrisonburg City Public School system where he taught instrumental music at the middle school level for 26 years.  He is currently teaching percussion as adjunct faculty at James Madison University and Bridgewater College. He lives in Harrisonburg with his wife Cheryl.
