The LASSI is an online 60-item self-assessment of student’s awareness about and use of learning and study strategies related to skill, will and self-regulation components of strategic learning. The LASSI provides standardized scores (percentile score equivalents) and national norms for ten different strategies. It provides students with a picture of their strengths and weaknesses, compared to other college students.

The areas covered by the 10 scales which can be divided into 3 learning components:

  • Will: Motivation, Attitude, Anxiety
  • Skill: Selecting Main Idea, Information Processing, Test Strategies
  • Self-regulation: Self-Testing, Concentration, Time Management, and Using Academic Resources

The LASSI may be given during a Learning Strategies Instruction session to help the student and peer educator use their time to focus on the components most critical for the student.

LASSI Instructional Modules

The LASSI Instructional Modules were developed by Claire Ellen Weinstein, author of the LASSI (Learning and Study Strategies Inventory). The online program focuses on the ten scales of LASSI and provides in-depth instruction in each of the ten areas. It is designed to help students become more effective and engaged strategic learners. The modules are made possible due to a collaboration with The Office of Strategic Planning & Engagement.
