The Academic Mentor Program (AMP) is designed to provide students with information and resources to assist in boosting GPAs that are disappointing to the student. Perhaps you found the transition to college-level coursework challenging and you were unable to meet your academic goals during your first semester. AMP is an opportunity to be matched with another student--a Peer Learning Assistant/Mentor who will meet with you several times to set some goals to improve your learning strategies. AMP is a structured series of four individual meetings with your Peer Mentor, and after those initial four meetings, if you would find it helpful to continue meeting with them, you can continue to set up additional regular or as-needed meetings. The four meetings will follow the plan below:
First Meeting
- Completing an Assessment Instrument
- Getting to know each other
- Helping your mentor understand what you hope to achieve through participating in the program
Second Meeting
- Checking in
- Completing the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI)
- Discussing the results of your LASSI
- Completing a Weekly Schedule
Third Meeting
- Checking in
- Goal-setting activity
- Discussion of Campus Resources
- Agreeing on a plan to visit three resources
Fourth Meeting
- Checking in
- Discussing the resources you visited since the last meeting
- Agreeing on a plan moving forward
- Re-taking the Assessment Instrument
