Peer Educator ESL Tutor
Lani Furbank, class of December 2013, served as the Peer Educator ESL Tutor. A Communication Center tutor since fall 2011, Lani’s interest in working with English language learners encouraged her to participate in an ESL tutoring seminar in fall 2012 and to take the Tutoring English as an Other Language course in spring 2013. Her successful completion of the training coupled with her great enthusiasm and professionalism have secured her the position as the first peer educator to work as an ESL tutor at JMU.
Lani earned a BA in the School of Media Arts and Design with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism, and a minor in Environmental Studies. Lani was involved around campus in the Society of Professional Journalists, JMU Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the JMU Honors Program. Lani is currently an Associate Producer for Let’s Talk Live at WJLA News Channel 8 in the Washington DC Metro Area.
