About MIkey Torres
Michael “Mikey” Torres is the X-Labs Operations Manager and Director of Esports for James Madison University. He was born in Arrecibo, Puerto Rico before moving to the Bronx in New York City. Since then, Mikey has lived in seven states before finding a home in Richmond, Virginia.
In addition to helping maintain the facilities and equipment of the X-Labs Department, Mikey also manages the entire JMU Dukes Esports Program which includes over 50 student athletes and the production/marketing teams. Under his guidance, the JMU Dukes will be competing in several collegiate leagues in titles such as Rocket League, Call of Duty, League of Legends, VALORANT, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six: Siege. Mikey has made it his mission to create a home for esports players of all cultures, backgrounds, and genders.
Most recently, Mikey worked as a Competition Support Specialist at the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE). His esports background also includes a paid position while a student as assistant coach at ECPI University and Head Coach for the veteran organization Regiment Gaming Rocket League team. Prior to making a lifelong commitment to esports, Mikey also served in the U.S Army/82nd Airborne as an Airborne Infantryman (which included a combat tour to Afghanistan) and worked in a variety of sales positions such as an Account Manager for McKesson.
