Geography majors are highly attractive to employers

JMU geographers are “big picture” thinkers, flourishing in the professional and scholarly world after graduation. Graduates are skilled in spatial analysis, as well as in environmental and social science research tools. They develop a knowledge base critical to understanding how the world works.

Some graduates of the JMU Geography Program pursue further studies at highly regarded universities both here and abroad. Others seek employment upon graduation.

Geography majors are highly attractive to employers because of their knowledge and understanding of both global and local issues, critical thinking skills, and their expertise in the latest geospatial technologies.

Graduates find employment with

  • Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Lockheed Martin Corporation, the National Park Service
  • Nature Conservatory
  • Digital Globe
  • Boeing Company, and many other businesses, institutions, and governmental agencies.

The College of Integrated Science and Engineering hosts a Career and Intership Fair during the Fall and Spring semesters.
