Incoming First-Year and Transfer Students
All of the following eligibility requirements must be met in order to qualify for an interview with the Centennial Scholars Program.
Admission to JMU
All applicants must be admitted to JMU as a new incoming first-year or transfer student for the Fall semester of the application year to qualify for an interview along with the other eligibility requirements.
- CSP does not require students to be admitted to JMU at the time the CSP application is submitted. This eligibility requirement will be determined when JMU admission decisions are posted.
- Note: First-year and transfer students admitted in the Spring semester are ineligible to apply as a new incoming student.
Financial Eligibility
Financial eligibility is determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). All applicants must be qualify for a Federal Pell Grant as determined by the FAFSA. Applicants must complete the FAFSA by February 1st for full consideration. Please note that this is different from JMU's March 1st priority filing deadline.
- Thereafter, students must qualify annually for the Federal Pell Grant as determined by the FAFSA to remain in the program.

Virginia Resident
All students must be considered In-State Virginia Residents according to the Office of Admissions. No exceptions!
- Must be eligible to complete the FAFSA based on Virginia state residency.
- Please refer to your Admissions' application status for clarification.
- International students are not eligible to apply.
Submit CSP Online Application
All applicants must successfully submit the CSP online application by the stipulated deadline of February 1st, 2023.
