Schedule your photo session

Make an appointment with a CISE photographer

Photo sessions can be scheduled in a lab or outside of King Hall with one of our photographers.

Images taken by our photographers can be viewed/downloaded from our CISE Flickr site.

Prepare for your photo session

Prepare for your session
Talk with your team members and decide beforehand

  • Where would you like your photo taken – in a lab or out in the field? (If you plan to take photos in a lab, make sure to bring safety glasses.)
  • Pick an activity. What would you like to be doing in your photo? What is your project about? (Sitting in front of a computer is not an activity.)
  • Photos should appear candid and natural – working on your project as you normally would.
  • Do not look directly at the camera and avoid pointing. (See example below.)

Dress appropriately
Dress as you would on a normal day of classes.  Please do not wear sweatpants, pajamas, any clothing that is ripped or torn, or clothes with words or graphics, or that could be considered inappropriate. Formal business attire is discouraged.

Submit your own photo

Scheduling a photo session with a photographer is the preferred option for students. If off-campus project work prevents this, students may submit their own photos, provided photos meet the following criteria:

Resolution and Orientation
Images must be 300 DPI and at least 3200 x 2400 pixels for high-quality printing. Use a high-resolution camera or HDR-enabled smartphone—avoid screenshots or compressed images.

Photo Orientation
Landscape (horizontal) orientation only. Vertical images will not be accepted.

Quality

  • Ensure good lighting and sharp, clear images
  • Keep backgrounds clean and uncluttered (remove water bottles, backpacks, etc.)
  • Take several photos of your group, so we have many options to choose from.

Candid Photography
Capture natural collaboration, not posed shots—students should be actively engaged in their project work, not looking at the camera.

Photo Submission
Students must submit photos before the deadline. If images don’t meet publication standards, a photography session will be required.

Stock Photography

Students not wishing to be featured in the book can opt for a stock photo closely matching their project from Unsplash or Pixabay.
