Rigidity Theory in the UK

In summer 2023, JMU CS students and faculty went abroad to the UK to study rigidity theory, a branch of computer science, mathematics, and engineering, in the country of its birth. We met with current researchers in rigidity theory, witnessed the principles of rigidity theory in the art and architecture of London and Edinburgh, and explored the rich history of computing in the UK at locations such as Bletchley Park, where the great computer scientist Alan Turing and his team cracked the German Enigma Machine in the Second World War, and at the National Computing Museum where one of the first computers ever built is still running. Over five weeks, students completed a rigorous course of upper-level CS classes, while also immersing themselves in the culture of the UK through the arts and historical sites.
