I help students prepare for life after college through various services such as career exploration, resume review, interview prep, etc. I can work with students no matter where they are at in their career journey.

My Career Journey

My career journey started when I attended a psychology class in high school that I took a liking to. Once I graduated, I decided to attend the best school ever, James Madison University! However, going into undergrad, the only thing I was sure about was that I wanted to attend JMU, so I entered in as an Undecided student. After taking some required GenEds, a Major/Career Decisions class (currently called "Career and Academic Planning"), and a few more psychology classes, I decided to declare a Psychology major. After gaining some great field placement experience at a counseling center through Dr. Szwedo’s class, I graduated and went on to get my Master’s in Human Services Counseling with a Life Coaching cognate. During that time, I started practicing as a counselor in Charlottesville, VA which I did for a few years before I decided I wanted to move into a coaching realm. I then took a job in Martinsville, VA at a community college working with the adult workforce population as a Career Coach. A few years passed and I began looking for a similar position closer to home (Virginia Beach) as I really enjoyed what I was doing, but was far away from all of my family and friends. I came across an open position at my alma mater and immediately applied. After a rigorous interview process, I accepted my current position at JMU as a Career Advisor and Liaison practicing what I love to do!

More About Me

3 words that describe me:

  • Passionate,
  • Sincere/Genuine,
  • Resourceful

Some fun facts about me:

  • Nature is my favorite place to be, so I love to do anything outdoors – hiking, camping, gardening, kayaking/canoeing, having picnics, etc., even just sitting outside. Our dog Rosie, who is a sweet hound mix rescue, loves to join my husband and I on our outdoor adventures.
  • I also love to travel and have been many places abroad, and plan to visit many many more.
  • I actually participated in an alternative break trip here at JMU with the CSL office. We went to Ecuador where we worked closely with the students at a local school, inside and outside the classroom.
  • My husband and I have been working on renovating an old Shasta Airflyte into a mobile coffee bar.
