PLEASE NOTE: This information ONLY applies to you IF your transcript indicates you are on academic suspension following the 2026 summer session.
NOTE: If you have been allowed to return to JMU through continued enrollment appeal/the re-entry process, you are subject to the terms in your contract letter.
We are writing to inform you that, based on your academic record at the end of the 2026 summer session, you are on academic suspension. According to university policy, academic suspension occurs when a student's cumulative GPA falls below the minimum required for continued enrollment at James Madison University.
What Academic Suspension Means
As a result of your suspension, you may not attend JMU for at least 12 months, unless permitted through the Continued Enrollment Request process outlined in the paragraph below.
Continued Enrollment Request (First Suspension Only)
If this is your first academic suspension, you may request permission to continue enrollment for the 2026 fall semester by submitting the Continued Enrollment Request Form https://forms.office.com/r/My7Tir6dvU.
Please note that the summer 2026 academic suspension is a continuation of the spring 2026 academic suspension and does not constitute a separate suspension.

- If more than one academic suspension appears on your transcript, you must remain separated from JMU for at least 24 months (https://www.jmu.edu/acstudserv/re-entry/undergraduate-reentry.shtml) and may only return under the Transfer Equivalent Option.
- An academic committee reviews all re-entry requests. Please note that re-entry is not guaranteed.
