SUBJECT: Suspension status at the end of the 2025 spring semester

NOTE:  If you have been allowed to return to JMU through continued enrollment appeal/the re-entry process, you are subject to the terms in your contract letter

We are writing to inform you that, based on your academic record at the end of the 2025 spring semester, you have been placed on academic suspension. According to university policy (JMU Academic Standing Policy), academic suspension occurs when a student's cumulative GPA falls below the minimum required for continued enrollment.

As a result of your suspension, you may not attend JMU for at least 12 months, unless otherwise permitted through one of the options outlined in the Summer Session and Continued Enrollment Request paragraphs below.

Summer Session Enrollment
You are eligible to enroll at JMU for the 2025 summer session. If summer grades raise your cumulative GPA above the suspension threshold, you may return for the fall 2025 semester without completing the continued enrollment request process.  Please note that summer enrollment is optional and not required to submit a Continued Enrollment Request Form.

Continued Enrollment Request
If this is your first academic suspension, you are eligible to request continued enrollment for the 2025 fall semester by submitting the Continued Enrollment Request Form.

If your summer grades place you back in good standing or academic probation, you do not need to submit the request.

Required Academic Standing Workshop
To help you better understand your academic standing and options, you are required to:

  • Review the 2025 Academic Standing Workshop
  • Complete the Academic Standing Workshop quiz with a score of at least 8 out of 10 by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025.

You will be added to the 2025 Academic Standing Workshop Canvas course (2025 Ac Stand Wrkshp) by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, and receive an invitation to join.

Failure to complete the presentation and quiz will result in a registration hold that prevents you from adding or dropping courses.

Re-Entry After Suspension

  • If this is your first academic suspension, you may apply for re-entry after a 12-month absence by submitting the Intent to Enroll Form.
  • If more than one academic suspension appears on your transcript, you must remain separated from JMU for at least 24 months and may only return under the Transfer Equivalent Option.
  • All re-entry requests are reviewed by an academic committee. Please note that re-entry is not guaranteed.
