How do I change my password?

Password Resets
- You can reset any JMU system password by stopping by the HelpDesk with a
photo ID card (or if you set up a secret question, you can reset your own
forgotten electronic ID password for email and ecampus).
- The HelpDesk will determine which password(s) need(s) reinitializing and
will submit a request for the change.
- The HelpDesk will submit a request on your behalf to reset or re-initialize your password, with a typical turnaround time of two hours.
PuTTY Instructions
- PuTTY allows you to connect to host systems such as Peregrin or Leo.
Once logged in you can perform tasks such as changing your Peregrin password
UNIX/Linux password change using passwd command:
passwd - entering the passwd command allows you to change your UNIX/Linux password.
After entering passwd from a command prompt, you will receive the following three prompts:
Current Password:
New Password:
Confirm New Password:
Each of these prompts must be entered and entered correctly for the password to be successfully changed.
