Group Policy Objects




Group Policy Objects (GPOs) are applied to computers that are managed as part of JMU's Desktop Management project.

What the individual GPOs do

DTS – Default Computer
Turns on Auditing for some events
Allows access to Administrators
Denies Access to Guests
Configures User Account Control in Vista
Configures Event Logs
Enables and Disables Services as needed
Enables storage of BitLocker keys in AD

DTS – Default User
Configures Screen Saver

DTS – Firewall 2
Allows incoming connection from AD servers for SMS

DTS – Wks-Admin
Allows select Desktop Services and HelpDesk personnel to log into a workstation as a administrator to effect repairs.

DTS – WSUS3 Auto
Configures the workstation to automatically download and install Microsoft updates from JMU’s WSUS server.

DTS - WSUS3 Manual
Configures the workstation to automatically download Microsoft updates from JMU’s WSUS server and prompts the user for installation.

DTS - WSUS3 Holding
Places workstation in Holding Group on WSUS server.

DTS - Install SMS Client
Installs SMS Client on workstation.

DTS - Firewall Minimum
Opens File and Print exception in Windows Firewall to allow installation of the SMS Client.

IT – Desktop DNS Settings
Applies necessary DNS settings to the workstation to work in Active Directory

IT – Vista NTLMv2 Settings
Configures network security settings to allow connection to our NetWare servers from a Vista workstation.
