Welcome to the Science and Math Learning Center, located in the Student Success Center, 1st floor, SSC 1100. We assist students in understanding course content, homework assignments and lab reports found in first and second year physics, chemistry, math, and statistics courses. 

No appointments are necessary and the services are free!  

The SMLC will provide online tutoring beginning on Monday, May 23rd for the first summer session!  See details in the purple box below!

Summer 2022 Announcement

The Science and Math Learning Center will open for Summer 2022 on Monday, May 23rd for online assistance in certain chemistry, math, physics, and statistics courses!  We will only be offering online support during summer term.  Dates are as follows:

Chemistry, Math, and Statistics: 5/23-6/16 (Closed on 5/30 for Memorial Day)

Physics: 5/23-6/30


Online: 

The SMLC offers a synchronous drop-in cafe-style tutoring service where you can consult with a tutor online through Zoom or WebEx.  No appointments needed!

See the instructions below or for a step-by-step guide with images on how to access synchronous tutoring, click here!

  • Navigate to the "Tutoring Schedules" section on the left menu
  • Click the subject you need help with
  • Log in with your JMU e-id and password
  • You will see the tutoring schedules and tutors listed who are available at those times. 
  • Click on a tutor's name at the appropriate day/time to enter their Zoom or WebEx room - you can join/leave the Zoom/WebEx meeting at any time during the tutor's shift! 
  • Follow the sign in prompts (if applicable) to sign in and launch your JMU Zoom or WebEx account
  • Ask the tutor your questions. Note: Since this service is drop-in style, there may be other students in the session who are also seeking support.  
  • Reminder: In compliance with the JMU Honor Code, our tutors are not able to help with tests, quizzes, etc.
