About Us
James Madison University proudly serves as the Program Delivery Organization for FIRST LEGO League in Virginia and Washington, D.C. Through hands-on robotics, research, and teamwork, students ages 4–14 explore STEM concepts while building essential skills like problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. Each year’s themed challenge inspires innovation and connects students with real-world issues, supported by a dedicated community of coaches, mentors, and volunteers.
Our Goals
Promote Innovation and Creativity
Each season includes a themed challenge where teams design innovative solutions to real-world problems, encouraging creativity and critical thinking.
Develop Essential Life Skills
Participants learn teamwork, communication, problem-solving, research, and presentation skills they will carry into school, careers, and life.
Ignite Passion for STEM
FIRST LEGO League ignites passion for STEM by inspiring students to explore real-world challenges through hands-on robotics, research, and teamwork. Using LEGO bricks and coding, kids learn to think like engineers and innovators while having fun solving problems that matter. Guided by mentors and built on collaboration, the program builds confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of discovery.

Above all, FIRST LEGO League celebrates our Core Values of discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and fun. Every season ends with celebratory, culminating event where teams showcase their work and celebrate their achievements.
