Quarterly Campaign #2 - Step It Up!

Balanced Dukes invites all faculty & staff to participate in our Annual Spring Walking Challenge – STEP IT UP!  This competition will challenge everyone to take 10,000 steps every day.

The benefits of walking 10,000 steps:

    • boost your energy
    • aid relaxation and clear your mind
    • provide a sense of achievement and satisfaction
    • improve confidence and mood
    • help manage your weight
    • promote healthier blood cholesterol and blood pressure
    • build stronger bones and muscles
    • reduce your risk of heart attack

  • The 2019 Challenge starts April 8th and will end on May 17th (you may enter the challenge any time during this period)
  • Faculty & staff are encouraged to walk 10,000 steps each day of the competition
  • Each day that you report walking 10,000 steps, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card to help you purchase a new pair of shoes!

Do I have to log 10,000 steps each day in order to participate?

No – however, you will receive an entry in to the drawing for each day you reach 10,000 steps. The more days you log 10,000 steps on your STEP TRACKER, the higher your chances of winning.

Do weekends count towards this competition?

Am I allowed to track steps taken on a treadmill, elliptical, etc. for this competition?

Yes – all steps count!

(Please contact Tara if you need accommodations to participate – we will work together to find something that will allow you to participate!)

If I take 20,000 steps one day, will I get two entries for that day?

Absolutely – we love to reward overachievers!!

Can I begin participating in the middle of the competition?

Yes – we encourage everyone to participate whenever they are able to STEP IT UP!

How will I turn in my steps to Balanced Dukes?

Submit your completed STEP TRACKER at the end of the competition.

We will need all submissions by Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Submit your entries to Tara Roe: |540-568-7916 (fax) |MSC 7009.

When will the winner be announced?

Friday, May 24, 2019

How will the winner be determined?

Each time a participant logs 10,000 steps on their step tracker, their name is recorded on a spreadsheet. We will use to generate a random number. The corresponding row on the spreadsheet will be the winner. The more frequently your name is on the spreadsheet (the more often you hit your 10,000-step goal), the better your odds of winning!
