General Information

735 Main is located on Main Street, across from the Hotel Madison. The building is within easy walking distance of the campus, historic downtown Harrisonburg, and a bus stop. Click here for a map location.

  • The building is considered to be a quiet living/learning community.
  • Residents of each unit and the building are expected to be conscientious and considerate of others.
  • The building is NO smoking, NO vaping, NO drugs, NO pets (service animals permitted w/extra fee).
  • We ask for your preferences in the application, however, we cannot guarantee that you will be offered your preference.
  • 735 Main is housing for first-year graduate students only.

Please note that applying does not guarantee a spot in the housing. Offers to live in Graduate Housing will be made by mid-June, and a commitment to live in the house will be needed by late June or early July.

The Graduate Housing application will open on Wednesday, May 1 at 9:00 a.m.

To apply, please follow these instructions:

  1. Log into the Online Housing System.

  2. Click on “Forms” from the top menu.

  3. Select “Graduate Housing Application” from the drop-down menu.

  4. Complete all information on the application form and click “Submit” to submit your application.

Unit Information
  • Furnished
  • Internet is included
  • Utilities are included
  • Unit kitchens are equipped with pots and pans, utensils, etc.
  • Washer/dryer in the unit
  • The building has two units per floor, and there are three floors in addition to a ground-floor unit.  Units available to graduate students are located on floors G, 1, 2, and 3. Parking is available behind the building
  • 735 Main is not considered ADA-accessible.
    • All units, including ground-floor apartments, must be accessed via stairs. The building does not have an elevator
  • Each unit contains three bedrooms

Each unit is three-person occupancy only.

Bedroom Information
  • Each bedroom is furnished with a bed (size may vary by unit/bedroom), desk, and chair
  • Each bedroom has a closet, with the exception of the ground floor bedroom B
  • The units on floors 1, 2, and 3 have the following:
    • Bedroom A has a half bath (toilet, sink) within the room; shares the unit full bath shower
    • Bedroom B shares a full bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) with the unit
    • Bedroom C has its own full bathroom (sink, toilet, shower) within the room
  • The ground floor unit has the following:
    • One bedroom with a sink and toilet. 
    • All bedrooms share a full bath with a shower, sink, and toilet. 

Each bedroom is single occupancy only.

Pricing/rent

Rent is charged based on the bedroom, and may be charged on a monthly or semester basis:

  • Bedroom A with half bath in room/ shared hall shower - approximately $535/month
  • Bedroom B sharing full hall bath - approximately $480/month
  • Bedroom C with full bath in room - approximately $580/month

Please know that you will share an apartment with other first-year graduate students and that you will be placed into a unit based on your eligibility and preferences, and the availability of a room. We try to accommodate all preferences, however, this is not always possible. 

Restrictions

The following are prohibited inside the units of 735 Main:

  • Smoking
  • Vaping
  • Drugs
  • Pets (except service animals)
