Join a community of colleagues to review your career, reflect on what is important in it, discuss where you want to go next, and identify next steps that are attainable. This community may be of particular interest to you if you
- Are preparing for an upcoming promotion process, whether imminent or in the mid-future;
- Are not on a tenure or promotion track (full- or part-time) but want to create a career plan;
- Have been in your career for a while and feel that it's time for a change;
- Want to thoughtfully plan your career in a changing academic environment.
We have some questions for you
- What are your career goals? What do you value professionally? What plans do you have for the future?
- How can you respond to change in the academy? There has been a lot in the recent past—a pandemic, AI, political changes, the move to an R2, and more. How might you navigate these developments and flourish professionally while understanding what type of institutional citizen you are? And what does institutional citizenship mean for you?
- How would a rich work experience look like for you? And with "rich," we mean work that is meaningful, exciting, challenging, rewarding, that makes the world a better place, and that is sustainable in the context of a full life that also includes good health, time for family, friends or community, and time for fun and play (and also the knowledge that this may not be attainable).
If you cannot answer all or some of these questions, this faculty community is for you. We provide tools for individual reflection, individually tailored feedback on your responses to our questions, and a community of colleagues that provides a range of perspectives, intellectual brainpower, and collegial compassion along the way. What we need you to provide in return is an open mind, the willingness to reflect honestly about your work and what is important to you, participation in conversations, and openness to feedback.
This institute is best experienced in person, but we also provide a Zoom connection for those who cannot be physically on campus.

Attendance & Registration Information
Programs within the CFI are designed to support the development of instructional faculty and AP faculty with instructional responsibilities. We also welcome staff to many of our programs. If you are interested in attending one of our programs but do not identify with the above classifications, please email cfi@jmu.edu.

LOG IN: If this is your first time visiting the registration page, your account will be created automatically when you sign in with your JMU e-ID and password (Okta required). Be sure to clear your browser cache/cookies upon each visit to the registration page.
- Complete your profile information:
- Update your college/division and department (use the search feature and/or select from the dropdown) and enter your Mail Stop Code (MSC) for your department on-campus mail.
- Add comments about your dietary & accommodation needs at the bottom of the profile form. (This information is collected and stored with your online account for all future programs you may attend.)
- Once your profile is complete, you should see a status update as complete on your Dashboard (an overview of your account).

Cancellations
If you find that you are unable to attend a scheduled event prior to the registration deadline, please return to your CFI Program Account and cancel your registration. If it is after the event registration deadline email cfi@jmu.edu as early as possible.
CFI programs will be canceled automatically if JMU is closed for inclement weather.
