The purpose of the coaching education minor is to provide sport coaches with the knowledge and skills to engage in the holistic development of athletes within their own communities. To prepare them to do so, coaching education minors are provided several opportunities to share their developing skills in the local community.

In the Introduction to Coaching course students participate in guided coaching practice with the Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation program. The coaching education minors seek to create a positive environment for young people to learn basic sport skills that will spark a lifelong commitment to physical activity.

Coaching education minors also work with other programs on campus or off campus, like Valley Scholars and the Annual Paralympic Skills Lab, to share their knowledge and expertise.
