Can your organization support a work-based learning experience for JMU students?
Our partners for work-based learning experiences include the full spectrum of nonprofit, business, and community organizations. Some of our partners are located within campus, such as the Edith J. Carrier arboretum or on-campus centers and employers. Both small and large businesses can host internships, micro-internships, or a course-embedded project or experience.
Small businesses can partner with a class to serve as a client for student-generated projects. Small businesses may be eligible for matching funding from the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (VTOP) to support internships.
Large businesses and industries have partnered with research labs, X-labs, and many individual courses. Reach out to JMU's Employer Services for guidance in how to set up a partnership.
The Community Engagement and Volunteer Center (CEVC) serves as the central point of connection between faculty and community partners.
We offer a suite of resources aimed at supporting those who supervise student employees in work-based learning experiences. These will be useful to external employers who supervise interns, campus employers who supervise students, and nonprofit and community partners who supervise student workers and volunteers.
In addition, the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (VTOP) offers a free employer readiness toolkit as well as free courses on how to set up an internship.
