We have transitioned to host our Spring 2021 Teacher Recruitment Day virtually. This decision was made with the safety of our students and employer partners in mind.

Note that this event will still occur even if JMU closes or has modified hours in the case of inclement weather.

Virtual Platform

We will be using Handshake’s new virtual career fair platform. We will be continually sharing further resources and training materials with registered attendees to help you adapt successfully to this new format. We appreciate your patience as we learn this new and exciting way to offer virtual career fairs together. 

Virtual Fair

The virtual fair 10am-12pm will be an opportunity for you to host 30-minute group information sessions about your school/district as well as informal 10-minute 1:1 meeting times with students to network. If you are planning on coordinating your own virtual interviews 1pm-4pm, this morning time frame is also an ideal time to add students of interest to your afternoon interview schedule.

Virtual Interviews

All interviews your team chooses to hold will be conducted virtually by each organization after the 10am-12pm fair concludes, using a technology platform of your choice. We will provide resources to help you coordinate and host your own afternoon virtual interviews, including a recommended sample interview schedule, a sample email you can use to send to students you’d like to invite for an afternoon interview, and more. Please note that it will be each organization’s responsibility to use these resources to conduct their own virtual interviews outside of the Handshake platform.

What software do we recommend  you use for your afternoon interviews?

We recommend using Zoom to conduct your virtual interviews, as this software is easy-to-use, offers secure meetings, and collaborates with many types of devices.

If your organization already uses a standard virtual interviewing software, you are welcome to use your preferred software.



  • Registration Opens: November 2, 2020
  • Registration Closes: February 18, 2021 or when we reach our employer limit for that fair session/day (whichever occurs first)
  • Cancellation Deadline for 100% refund: February 4, 2021
  • Cancellation Deadline for 50% refund: February 18, 2021
  • No refund will be issued for cancellations received after February 18, 2021


  • Registration: $100
  • The registration fee for this virtual event includes participation in the fair day, marketing of your participation to JMU students, and access to student attendees so that you may follow up with them to schedule a virtual interview.
  • Please note that we are only able to accept credit card as method of payment. Any payments sent via check will unfortunately be returned.


  • Log in to our online recruiting platform, Handshake.
  • Navigate to the ‘Fairs’ tab on the left and search for the name of the fair you wish to attend.
  • Consult the Handshake Help Center’s How to Register for a Career Fair instructions for further information.
  • Our office will review your registration request within 3 business days.
