My Career Journey
I graduated from JMU in December 2023 with my Bachelor of Arts in History. During my last semester, I was navigating what I wanted to do post-grad. During undergrad, I worked as a TOPA/OPA with the Office of Orientation and Transition for two summers. That’s when my career journey into student affairs started. I loved working with and helping transfer and first-year students navigate their transition to JMU with all the resources they needed. I developed mentorships with professional staff and ended up being a mentor for a few of my students. I found a calling in wanting to help students in higher education find themselves and their place of belonging. I was also a member of similar organizations that supported student transitions, such as Navigate JMU and Dukes First.
As I was figuring out my post-grad plans, I stumbled upon the idea of continuing my student affairs journey by applying to higher education graduate programs. I decided to apply to the College Personnel Administration Program here at JMU, and I’m currently in my second and final year of grad school. I’m happy to share that I will be starting my second assistantship at the JMU University Career Center! I can’t wait to help students explore different career opportunities for their futures!
