The Asian Studies Minor at James Madison University condemns the ongoing and widespread wave of anti-Asian violence and discrimination across this year, culminating in the most recent attack in Atlanta. Americans have a long and complicated history of xenophobia, anti-immigration and discrimination directed at our Asian communities that are often supported in policy and the law. We echo President Alger’s statement of support for our faculty, students, and staff in the Asian and AAPI community and other marginalized groups. We continue to counter bigotry and other forms of hate inside the classroom and out through international collaboration, scholarly engagement and other educational activities.
