"As a JMU alumna who majored in English with a concentration in Professional Writing ('93), I am excited to have been able to witness the evolution of writing at JMU over the last fifteen years. Students and administrators, alike, have not only embraced the discipline, but have helped to create cutting edge programs of study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that are the first of their kind in the state. WRTC graduates will enter the job and graduate school markets with a set of qualifications that are unmatched, whether one's future is law school or a Ph.D. program, a career in business, teaching or professional writing, or any of the countless professions in which strategic writing is a must. I cannot wait to see what our graduates accomplish in the next several years."

The 50+ faculty from the School are responsible for teaching the General Education Cluster One course GWRTC 103 each term, while the School's Writing in the Disciplines Initiative extends students' experience and practice as writers beyond the first year and introduces them to more specialized, discipline-specific kinds of discourse.

The School is also a contributing unit to the interdisciplinary minors in Science, Technology and Society and Women's Studies, as well as the Communication and Media in London Program.
