James Madison University Colors
General Usage
JMU's official colors are purple and gold. These
colors have been associated with the university since 1909.
Standards
Only official Pantone Matching System ink colors
or their corresponding four-color process builds shall be used
whenever JMU purple and gold appear in print communications.
The following Pantone Matching System ink colors
shall be used whenever official JMU purple and gold appear in
printed communications with spot color: 2685 Purple and 1245 Gold
or 871 Metallic Gold.
The following formulas shall be used when
specifying process color (CMYK) for JMU purple and gold in
full-color printed publications:

Guidelines
A one-color logo or mark shall be displayed in
purple, gold or black. These include: the James Madison University
Seal, JMU Theme, James Madison Logo, James Madison Logo Secondary
Mark and James Madison University Wordmark.
Athletics Usage
Standards
- Pantone Matching System 2685 Purple and 1245 Gold
or 871 Metallic Gold or their corresponding four-color process
builds shall be used to produce official JMU purple and gold in
printed athletics communications.
- A one-color athletics logo or mark shall be
displayed in purple, gold or black.
- Official JMU purple and gold shall be used to
produce a two-color athletics logo or mark in printed
communications.
- The following Pantone Matching System ink colors
shall be used to create the Duke Dog logo with spot color: Pantone
2685 Purple (cape, crown cap and control shape); 1245 Gold or 871
Metallic Gold (crown, collar and letters); Cool Gray 5 or black
screened to 34 percent (body); solid black (all outlines) and 485
Red (tongue).
- The following percentages shall be used to create
the Duke Dog logo with four-color process builds (CMYK): 80 Cyan
and 80 Magenta for purple; 28 Magenta, 100 Yellow and 19 Black for
gold; 34 Black for gray; and 100 Magenta and 91 Yellow for
red.
