The Honors Program would like to congratulate the winners of the
Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi best honors thesis awards;
Lorraine White and Jeffrey Turner, respectively.
Lorraine, an Individualized Study in History major, was nominated by her
department for her thesis titled "A Forgotten Community: The African American
Presence in Highland County, Virginia."
Jeffrey, an ISAT major, was nominated by his department for his thesis
titled "The Pilot Scale Removal of Manganses from Wastewater by Ozone
Treatment."

The Honors Program is pleased to recognize two recent national scholarships
winners, Traci Cox and Jamey Szalay. Traci, who graduated from JMU and
the Honors Program in 2008, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to
Slovakia
where she will be an English Teaching Assistant in Zilina.
Jamey, a Physics major and Honors Program student, was awarded the
Goldwater Scholarship which supports undergraduate study in Science,
Mathematics, and Engineering. Congratulations to both Traci and
Jamey on winning these very prestigious and competitive awards!
