Anne (Annie) Walther currently serves as Associate University Counsel for James Madison University and Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Annie is licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C., recently passed the Virginia Bar Exam in 2023, and is anticipating full Virginia licensure by the end of the year. While awaiting her Virginia licensure, Annie assists the University and Office of University Counsel with its legal research needs. Post-licensure, she will advise on education law matters generally, but will focus on student affairs related matters as well as Title IX and threat assessment issues.
Prior to joining James Madison University in 2023, Annie worked as a Higher Education Law Fellow for Virginia Commonwealth University’s Office of University Counsel. Annie has also worked as a Law Fellow for the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and in various other roles at both public and private institutions of higher education. Her work has been published by Brigham Young University’s Education and Law Journal.
Annie has a B.A. in Public Relations from Westminster College, where she received the Chair’s Choice Award for “Outstanding Contributions to Westminster Organizations” and a J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she served as the Executive Editor for the Richmond Journal of Law and Technology.
