Scholarship Overview

An endowed scholarship established with gifts from Lynn Peters Fountaine '53 to create the Lynn Peters Fountaine '53 Scholarship Endowment, by which the Donor intends to provide financial resources annually to encourage students in their pursuit of higher education. To fulfill this purpose, the Donor directs that the available scholarship funds shall be presented annually to one or more undergraduate students who demonstrate a need for financial assistance (as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships) and are citizens of the United States, with a preference for students who demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence.

The University's Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships shall submit one or more nominations for this scholarship to the JMU Foundation in a timely manner each year so that the selected student(s) may be announced during the spring semester. In all cases, once a student is appointed a Fountaine Scholar, the scholarship may be renewed for up to four academic years beyond the first year of study, provided that the student remains a full-time student in good standing with the University. Beyond the above criteria, the administration of this scholarship shall be in accordance with the guidelines for scholarships, as such guidelines may be in effect from time to time.
