Scholarship Overview

An endowed scholarship established by Nancy Kurtz O'Hare, the Ella Stephenson Kurtz -Nancy Kurtz O'Hare Scholarship Endowment will provide financial resources annually to encourage students in their pursuit of higher education. To fulfill this purpose, the Donor directs that these scholarship funds shall be awarded to a rising senior who demonstrates the need for financial assistance, as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, and a career interest in teaching a Social Science, as indicated by a major in one of the Social Sciences and a minor in middle school education. Once a student is appointed to receive this scholarship, it may be renewed for the following year if the student requires an additional year of study to complete degree requirements, provided that the student remains a full-time student in good standing with the University. In the event no student majoring in a Social Science may be eligible for this scholarship in any particular year, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student with a major course of study in the humanities who meets all the other criteria. Beyond the above criteria, the appointment of Ella Stephenson Kurtz – Nancy Kurtz O'Hare Scholars shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
