Scholarship Overview
Established by Anne W. Nielsen in memory of her husband, Dr. Peter T. Nielsen, an emeritus faculty member from the Department of Biology, College of Science and Mathematics at JMU. It is intended that an annual award of $1,250 will be made available by the donor to benefit a student who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and a grade point average of 3.25 within the major area, and who intends to pursue studies in botanical science. The award shall be used to recruit a graduate student or, should an eligible graduate student not be available, to reward an outstanding undergraduate student in plant biology. A new student will be selected each year. Past recipients are eligible to reapply for the annual award. Financial need will not be considered in the selection process. A committee of botanists within the Biology Department in the College of Science and Mathematics will select the award recipient.
