Laly has lived in Virginia her entire life, but her family originates from México. As a first-generation college student, she received her B.A. in Psychology and her M.A.T. in Special Education, General and Adapted Curriculum from JMU. She spent several years as a high school special education teacher in Augusta and Rockingham County. During this time, Laly developed expertise in curriculum development, trauma-informed educational practices, and universal design. She became familiar with the workings of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Individuals with Disabilities Act to increase access and equity among learners with disabilities. Currently, as Assistant Director of Disability Services, she continues to use the knowledge gained in the classroom when meeting with students, reviewing applications for accommodations, and connecting with faculty. Laly enjoys cooking, reading, and crocheting in her free time.
