“Lab school has been a great experience for my son at BHS! The integration of content and hands-on learning has been a real-world way to experience the 9th-grade subject requirements. The teachers in lab school collaborate to create amazing projects and opportunities for their students and they come home with real world application of their learning. My son has already been on several field trips and had visits from experts in the field of study related to what he is learning. He has had the opportunity to collaborate with students on projects like a model UN and sustainable city while also having the opportunity to work on individual goals and build a lab school portfolio. The academic and financial support from James Madison University has been amazing! The students have materials and opportunities they would not have otherwise had without this support. As a parent, I cannot recommend it enough the opportunities that this way of learning has opened for my son. This is not your typical textbook learning and I love that for him! I will definitely encourage my younger son to apply when he gets to high school!”

“The Lab School has been a very positive experience for my daughter as she began high school. She loves how interactive the classes are which really allows her to understand the material. With the funds provided from the grant they received, it has also been nice that they are able to take more field trips and have a well stocked classroom. As a teacher myself, I love how they are able to combine the subjects and find connections between them. My only wish is that this program had been started earlier so my son could have experienced this style of learning as well!”

"I'm thankful [my child] was given the opportunity to be a part of Lab School for many reasons. [My child] interacts, is engaged, collaborates and participates with students more often than he would in a traditional classroom environment. I believe this has strengthened his development because it has brought him out of his comfort zone of being quiet and shy. I hear the new teaching approach of Lab School is more exciting! The fact that kids can learn about many different career options, all through their high- school years is beneficial! I know Lab School is and will continue to be very rewarding!";
